Our seasonal exclusive shirts are made in England in very limited quantities with unique materials and patterns designed by Turnbull & Asser
Our story is set in an alternative past where all forms of individual expression are closely monitored and compliance is seen as key to maintaining law and order. Discover the story behind our AW16 collection...
It’s not just the material or fit that dictate a shirt's style - it's the finishing details, from the top of the neck to the sleeve’s end.
Attention to detail means our ties are unlike any others. Formed from three sections – the blade, the gusset and the under end – they are hand-stitched in England by skilled sewers using premium, exclusive silks and indestructible bonded thread.
There are few experiences more satisfying than pulling on a crisply laundered shirt that has been made for you, and you alone. Thanks to our precise measurements and exclusive fabrics, each bespoke design is a one-of-a-kind treasure that will last a lifetime.
With a selection of 1,000+ fabrics, 25 collar and cuff options, 20 monogram styles and various collar linings, all you need is a little imagination to build your bespoke shirt.
Whether you prefer versatile classics or statement show-pieces, no design request is too large or small; we want to ensure the end result is catered to your precise needs.
We take 18 body measurements, taking into account posture and any other special requirements you may have.
YOU ARE HELPING TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT IS UNIQUE AND INDIVIDUAL TO YOU
The flawless fit and attention to detail of our bespoke shirts makes each creation a timeless one-off and their custom-made nature allows you to become the designer, adding or changing whichever elements you wish. Here, we note down all your design requests.
The measurements are used to create a paper pattern of your shirt. This drawing is then sent to our workshop in Gloucester where it is skilfully replicated into a digital format for maximum precision.
Everything has to come together perfectly to make the perfect Turnbull & Asser shirt.
Next, our experienced seamstresses masterfully cut your chosen cloth by hand. They use pencil marks to indicate any specific requests such as a minutely shorter sleeve. Hand-worked sewing machines are then used to bring the shirt together - they produce stronger seams while maintaining accuracy.
Absolute precision requires trialling. Once a sample shirt has been created, we ask you to wear and launder it as normal, three times - this process allows for inevitable shrinkage of the fabric. It is then adjusted to create a fit that is absolutely perfect.
A long-time customer of Turnbull & Asser, HRH Prince of Wales issued us with his first royal warrant in 1980. The Prince even paid a visit to our Gloucester factory in 2013, trying his hand at operating our sewing machines.
No appointment is necessary for a bespoke consultation. Our team will guide you through the myriad of fabrics on offer and then advise you on the various collars and cuff options available. Your measurements and posture will then be recorded for our pattern-maker to create your personal pattern.
