London Craft Week: The Bespoke Shirt

Posted 10.04.17  - Craft

There really is no menswear staple as quintessential as a bespoke shirt flawlessly crafted to fit you, and you alone. If you have ever wondered what goes into the making of a bespoke shirt then ready your diary as we are offering a unique opportunity to discover just that, in collaboration with London Craft Week.

The first word in shirtmaking, Turnbull & Asser has been mastering the art of bespoke since 1885. More than 130 years of measuring, cutting, constructing and sewing means our experts are the finest in the field; head of bespoke Steven Quin holds our prestigious royal warrant and is personally responsible for fitting HRH Prince Charles when he calls on us for shirts, while George Atanasias is an esteemed pattern cutter with decades of experience.

On Wednesday 3rd May, Mr Quin and Mr Atanasias will be hosting an evening at our renowned Bury Street store to educate guests on the rigorous five-step process of creating a bespoke shirt. From initial measurements to final fitting, you can learn what makes each design so precise and personal, gaining an insight into why almost every eminent British gent – ranging from Sir Winston Churchill to James Bond’s Daniel Craig - has chosen T&A in the past.

Alongside getting your measurements taken, you can enjoy champagne and canapés while Mr Quin gives you a tour of the iconic premises and experienced cutters and sewers perform live demonstrations. The £50 ticket fee will also go towards the cost of a bespoke shirt purchased on the night. Standard bespoke purchases usually require a minimum of six shirt orders but for this event customers may order from just one, giving them a unique introduction to the world of bespoke with a lower-cost quantity.
