T&A Opens At The Westfield World Trade Center

Posted 16.08.16  - Culture

This week the Westfield World Trade Center opened in Lower Manhattan and Turnbull & Asser was delighted to be a part of its grand unveiling.

Located within the mesmerising Oculus - an 800,000-square-foot rib-like white marble building designed by architect Santiago Calatrava - the new store will cater to the downtown area’s 60,000 residents, 300,000 commuters and the millions of visitors who pass through daily.

The new location will act as a sister location to our flagship, the Turnbull Townhouse, which opened on 50 East 57th Street in 1997. It will contain a signature bespoke shirting department and made-to-measure suiting area alongside the traditional showcase of ready-to-wear shirts, ties, pocket squares, sleepwear and seasonal designs.

To design the 580 square foot space we once again partnered with London-based designers and architects Shed, who have aimed to embody the spirit of the original Jermyn Street store in London. We have worked with Shed twice previously; they are responsible for the interiors of our Davies Street store (opened in August 2015) and our official showroom, both of which are in Mayfair. The new store’s design includes subtle tones and textures of white-on-white, with understated mouldings and cornice set against a rich smoked oak chevron floor adorned with bespoke rugs inspired by iconic T&A designs. Custom handcrafted furniture will sit as freestanding features throughout the space, complemented by satin brushed brass, Portoro marble, rich red leather, subtly tinted glass and dark British oak and mahogany.

Another of our continued partnerships is with luxury luggage-maker Globe-Trotter. The London-based brand have designed bespoke trunks to sit within tall glass cases, assisting in displaying merchandise and doubling as portable wardrobe cases for upcoming trunk shows.

The opening marks a milestone in our company’s timeline and is set to revolutionise the Big Apple’s commerce industry. With a series of exciting bespoke shirting and custom suiting events scheduled in-store throughout autumn 2016, T&A gents have plenty to look forward to.
