Striped Linens Collection: A Look Behind The Scenes
Located in the heart of Marrakech, Morocco, the breathtaking Dar Layyina provided a picturesque backdrop for our Striped Linens Collection. The shirts were created with summer in mind, inspired by the characteristics of French workwear.
As collections are typically shot months in advance of launch, the limitations of a ‘summer’ photoshoot in the middle of a cold February in London were obvious. The collection’s colour palette of vintage white, brick red and warm indigo naturally lent itself to the beautifully pastel tones of the Marrakech villa, making the decision to travel down to the African continent an easy one. Speaking on the choice of location, our Creative Director Becky French said, “shirts for summer need to be versatile for smart occasions as well as for days on the beach. The texture of the linen cloth, the less-formal collars, make these shirts great for warm days and nights, at home and abroad.”
Once we settled in, the evening was spent recceing the villa—assessing the internal and external location and areas, and deciphering which places would photograph well and keep to the story we were trying to tell. The team put together eight looks, highlighting each shirt from the collection, and organised the schedule for the following day—spanning from sunrise to sunset. Josh Shinner, the photographer who also captured our Spring/Summer 2019 collection, was on-hand to cover the looks alongside stylist Michelle Duguid, make-up artist Emily McEwan Gibson and model Richard Ampaw.
