The Gentleman’s Shirt Guide for All Occasions

Posted 15.12.23

Refined, timeless, iconic: our Turnbull & Asser shirt has been a classic for over a century. Drenched in heritage and time-honoured techniques, each style is still handmade in the traditional way by skilled craftspeople in our factory just outside Gloucester, England, proudly showcasing our British identity. The creation process involves up to 33 individual hand-cut pieces of the highest quality cloth and ethically sourced mother-of-pearl buttons, imbuing products with character and purpose. No detail is overlooked, as evidenced by the non-fused collar, single-piece yokes and pentagonal reinforced gussets that require the artisan's sharp eye and dexterity to complete.

Anchored in the past yet looking firmly to the future, the codes of men's shirting continue to subtly change and evolve in response to today's dynamic lifestyles – an essence we’ve captured in all our shirt designs. From the classic Mayfair silhouette to the more contemporary Richmond cuts, without forgetting the effortlessly chic Piccadilly fit, explore our go-to shirts that meet the real needs of stylish modern gents.

Timeless & Classic: Mayfair Shirt

No matter how much dress codes fluctuate, our Mayfair shirt remains at the forefront of the work wardrobe. The original T&A style – tailored to our regular fit and detailed with our signature three-button cuffs and non-fused T&A collar – it's the perfect example of ageless design and brings out the gentleman in any man. Named after one of London's oldest and most elegant neighbourhoods, the Mayfair shirt works equally well as part of smart office attire, paired with a suitably refined knit and our Barrington Blazer, as well as with more sophisticated, formal ensembles, held together with a silk tie. In fact, the T&A collar has been designed specifically to ensure an impeccable shape beneath a classic knot, proving that flawless precision is always in fashion.

Off Duty, On Point: Richmond Shirt

Turnbull's signature approach to downtime dressing. Our Richmond shirt is suited for leisurely days spent exploring the outskirts of the city and quick getaways to the English countryside. The Weekend Fit features straighter side seams and a shorter body length – leave it untucked for an effortless appearance. Notice the subtle details that make it truly unique: the revised button placement and wider top stitch on the shirt placket. Styling-wise, you can't go wrong with our James Trousers for a polished yet effortless look, or dress down even further with a pair of Chinos, the Ribbed Cashmere Ainsley Cardigan and Remy Chore Jacket.
