In a continued climate of uncertainty, Turnbull & Asser design team explored the importance of a noble, creative spirit, the necessity of friendship and selflessness as its inspiration for this new SS21 pre-collection. Creative Director, Becky French, drew the direct colour inspiration from the work of two the most skilled British painters, long-time friends that often referenced each other in their work, Lucian Freud, and Francis Bacon.
In true Turnbull style, painterly palettes freshen up its first foray into 2021. A combination of hues in natural sand, olive and pink, sit well with pale blues, denim, and chambray, all contrasted by vivid orangey-reds and rich burgundy colour pops.

At the centre of the collection, the signature Made in England shirt range offering innovation across exclusive formal stripes and checks, with bases of powder blue and fresh white, the shirts highlighted by complementary colours from other areas of the palette.
Its more casual Weekend-fit shirts take centre stage with soft brushed fine cotton in charcoal checks, unique indigo cotton shirts inspired by denim feature strongly, and new workwear-inspired drill-quality cotton with a hardy weight and exceptional ability to wash and wear. The new season shirts continue to carry the classic Turnbull & Asser handwriting of formality, outstanding quality, and British artisanship. Yet they stay effortless to wear, timelessly stylish and are tended to be treasured for generations.
As expected from the Jermyn Street shirtmaker, colourful silk accessories accompany its shirts, with its handprinted pocket squares surpassing its ties as the preferred neckpiece for the season. Newness also enters the range in with an entirely UK-made white T-shirt – another perfect accessory for a Turnbull shirt and ideal for layering in-between seasons. Other collection highlights include an exquisite pair of ecru jeans made in London, beautifully spun pieces of cashmere in vibrant pop colours, and a standout series of fine Italian-made tailored jackets. Finally, as in earlier seasons, Turnbull & Asser add in exceptional, high-performance showerproof outerwear – proper for the British springtime.
